Every so often we get to put our dancers in a room with someone who works at the level they dream about. This Friday is one of those days.
Luke Romanzi is a dancer and choreographer whose resume reads like a highlight reel: So You Think You Can Dance, HBO's Random Acts of Flyness, the FIFA World Cup ceremonies, and Derek Hough's Symphony of Dance tour. He's toured the United States and Europe with Parsons Dance and internationally with Rock The Ballet. He trained at LaGuardia, the real-life "Fame" school in New York City, and was a YoungArts finalist. Today he teaches, choreographs, and judges nationwide.
On Friday, July 17 he's at DXNY in Hauppauge teaching two contemporary sessions, one for ages 9 to 11 and one for ages 12 and up.
Contemporary with someone like Luke isn't about learning a routine. It's about how a working professional moves, how he builds a phrase, what he asks of a dancer's artistry, and what it feels like to keep up in a professional-paced room. Dancers leave classes like this different than they walked in.
You don't need to be a DXNY dancer to come. Dancers from any studio are welcome.
